Privacy Policy

Welcome to Unveil ("we," "our," or "us"), an independent project operated by Saurav Jangid. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Repackaged version of Instagram Application ("the Service").

1. Information We Collect

To provide our Service, we collect a limited amount of information. We have designed our system to collect only what is necessary to facilitate on-device functionality and ensure a good user experience.

Information You Provide to Us:

  • Instagram Username and UserID: To identify your account and manage your settings, we store your unique Instagram UserID and Username.
  • FCM Token: We collect your Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token solely to provide push notifications and alerts.

Information Handled Locally (On-Device):

  • Session Data: Your login credentials and session cookies are processed through a secure Webview. This data is encrypted using AES/GCM/NoPadding and stored strictly on your local device hardware. We never see or store your password or session data on our servers.
  • Media Storage: All downloaded stories, profile pictures, and highlights are stored locally in your device's internal storage.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To Provide the Service: To allow you to browse and archive Instagram content anonymously without "Seen" indicators.
  • To Communicate With You: To send you push notifications via your FCM token regarding profile updates or system changes.
  • Safety and Security: To enforce our policies and prevent abuse of the service.

3. Data Retention

We believe in data minimization and retain your data only as long as necessary.

  • Local Data: Session cookies and archived media remain on your device until you manually clear the app data or uninstall the application.
  • Server Data: Your Username, UserID, and FCM token are stored as long as you use the service. Data is only deleted upon a valid user deletion request.
  • Abuse Prevention: In cases of Terms of Service violations, we may retain a hashed record (sha256) of your UserID solely to enforce permanent bans.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

Your privacy is paramount. We do not sell or rent your data. We do not share your information except in the limited circumstances described below.

  • Third-Party Service Providers: We use third-party services to host our backend infrastructure. Your data is processed by these services solely for the purpose of operating Unveil. Our providers are:
    • Render: Server hosting.
    • Aiven: Database hosting.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation or a request from a legal authority.

Important Notice Regarding Instagram

Unveil acts as a client for the Instagram platform. By using this Service, you understand that Instagram (Meta Platforms, Inc.) also has access to your interactions subject to their own Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. We have no control over Meta's data collection practices.

5. Your Data Rights and Choices

You have control over your information.

  • On-Device Deletion: You can wipe all encrypted session data and archived media instantly by clearing the application storage in your device settings.
  • Account Deletion: You may request the permanent deletion of all your stored data from our infrastructure by contacting us.

6. Children's Privacy

Our service is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via in-app push notifications. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Privacy Policy.
